Welcome Mockingbird Bloggers!

Students from across the country read and discuss one of the most powerful and important American novels. This blog is an opportunity for us to share our insights and ideas.

Welcome to students from Mrs. Karns's Grade 8 English classes in Marblehead, Massachusetts. Also, joining us will by Ms. Gutirrez's grade 7 students who attend the Colorado Springs School in, that's right, Colorado Springs, Colorado. And a big welcome to the eighth grade students J.H.S. 217 R. A. Vanwyck Junior High School in Jamaica New York.

Graduate students in Professor Christine Peterson's college class at California University of Pennsylvania will be leading the discussions.

Before you visit your assigned blog, post some information about yourselves and read what your fellow bloggers have to say about themselves.

Chapter 1
Dill dared Jem to go onto the Radley’s property. Have you ever been dared to do something? How did it make you feel? Did you go through with the dare? Why or why not?

Chapter 2
Why is it so important that Miss Caroline teach Jean Louise to read instead of others who previously taught him?

Chapter 3
Scout did not want to go back to school. Think of a time when you did not want to go to school. What was your reason? Was it a valid reason?

Chapter 4
Jem has told Scout that she “was being a girl”. How do you think Scout really feels when Jem says that to her? What causes Scout to act like a tomboy?

Chapter 5
Why are the children obsessed with Boo Radley? What do you think they would do if Boo actually came out of the house?

My name is Rotina Johnson. I love learning. Knowledge is the key to success. I enjoy playing the piano and singing. I had to edit my first blog. My key was sticking on my computer and I misspelled the word "key." I am a graduate student at California University of PA. I am married with four children. I read "To Kill a Mockingbird" when I was in elementary school. I enjoyed reading it because the plot and irony were exciting and unpredictable.
